Scroll sideways on a phone. Prices and features change; each row links the page we read.
Citationly is our product. We’ve tried to be fair: every fact about another tool comes from its own website, read on 2 November 2026, and linked. Prices and plans change often, so check each vendor’s page before you buy. Where a vendor’s own pages disagree with each other, the table says so rather than picking one.
How to choose
Every tool in this table asks AI engines questions and reports what comes back. They differ in what they ask, how often, and what they let you see. Six questions sort them quickly.
How many AI engines do you need? If your buyers use several AI assistants, a tool that covers more of them gives you a wider view. Most tools here cover four or more engines on at least one plan, some as paid add-ons. Citationly covers one today: ChatGPT. If ChatGPT is where your buyers ask, one engine measured carefully may be enough to start. If you need Gemini, Perplexity or Google’s AI answers now, the self-serve tools above cover them.
Will your team run it, or do you want it run for you? Most of these tools are software: your team logs in, chooses prompts, reads dashboards and decides what to do. That suits a team with time and an SEO or content specialist. Citationly is done for you: we draft and test the questions, run them, read the results and walk your team through what they mean.
How often are the questions asked again? Several tools state daily tracking. Answers change from one ask to the next, so frequent re-asking shows which results hold and which wobble. Citationly asks each question three times per run and, on weekly tracking, re-asks the same locked questions every week. If you need daily movement, a daily tool fits better.
Can you read the answers behind each number? This matters more than it sounds. A number like “visibility” is only as good as the answers it was counted from: which questions, how many times each was asked, whether web search was on, and how brand names were matched. Ask to see the raw answers. Citationly opens every count to the answers it came from, word for word.
One score, or counts you can check? Several vendors describe a visibility score, a share of voice or a percentage. A single figure is quick to read, but it hides two things: how many answers it was counted from, and which questions they were. Fifty percent of four answers and fifty percent of four hundred are very different findings. Citationly reports a count with its denominator, “named in [n] of [N] answers we recorded”, and no combined score.
Does it fit your market? The other tools here that publish prices show them in dollars. Citationly is built for brands in India, prices in rupees, and drafts questions for your category in your market.
Where other tools do more than Citationly
We’d rather you hear this from us.
- More engines. Profound’s Enterprise plan lists up to nine answer engines. Peec AI’s Enterprise plan says up to 13 models. Otterly.AI includes four engines and sells three more as add-ons. Ahrefs Brand Radar covers six, plus Claude for custom prompts. Trendos names seven or more. Citationly covers ChatGPT only today.
- Self-serve dashboards. If your team wants to log in, add prompts and explore whenever it likes, these tools are built for that. Peec AI lists unlimited team users on every plan.
- Daily tracking. Peec AI, Otterly.AI and Profound state daily tracking; Semrush says its prompt tracking updates daily; Ahrefs lets you choose daily, weekly or monthly for custom prompts. Our most frequent cadence is weekly.
- APIs and exports. Peec AI (Pro and up), Otterly.AI (Standard and up) and Profound (Enterprise) list API access.
- Breadth of prompts. Ahrefs Brand Radar describes an index of hundreds of millions of search-backed prompts, which can show visibility across a whole topic rather than one set of questions.
- Extras. Profound and Peec AI describe tracking AI crawler visits to your site. Profound describes ChatGPT shopping visibility.
- Free starting points. Trendos lists a free plan, Profound offers a free trial, and Semrush lists a free plan with AI visibility features.
Where Citationly is different
- Every number opens to the recorded answers. Click a count and read every answer behind it, word for word, with the websites each one cited.
- Counts with their denominator, never a score. “Named in [n] of [N] answers we recorded.” If you weren’t named, the report says “not named in any of these [N] answers”, because that describes our search, not the whole internet.
- Next steps come from the answers that left you out. We list the websites those answers cited, strongest evidence first, and the pages of yours that don’t yet use the words buyers used.
- Checked against your own website. Where an answer says something about you, we compare it with what your own pages say and show you both.
- Done for you. We prepare the questions, ask each one three times with web search on, and walk your team through the report.
- Built for India. Questions drafted for your category in your market, and prices in rupees: ₹10,000 + taxes for an audit, ₹20,000/month + taxes for weekly tracking.
- One engine, named. ChatGPT today, through OpenAI’s API with web search on. We say so on every report, and we’ll announce more engines only when they’re live.
Questions to ask any vendor
Whichever tool you look at, these questions show you what its numbers mean.
- Which model answers, exactly? A model name and version, not just “ChatGPT”.
- Is web search on or off? An answer without web search can’t see anything published after the model’s training cutoff.
- The app, or the API? The ChatGPT app adds its own memory and settings, so it can answer differently from the API. Which one does the tool use?
- How many times is each question asked? One ask is a sample of one. Answers vary from ask to ask.
- Can I read every answer behind every number? If not, you can’t check what was counted.
- How are brand names matched? A short name like “Alpha” shouldn’t count when it only appears inside a longer name like “Alphatest Co”. Ask how the tool handles short names, spellings and companies with several names.
- What is each figure a count of, and out of how many? A percentage should come with its count.
- What happens when an engine fails mid-run? Does the tool mark the run incomplete, or quietly report a partial result?
- Who writes the questions, and do they stay the same? Comparing two runs only means something if the same questions were asked both times.
